Our Purpose
Cape Fear Storyworks is an independent publishing initiative focused on place-based stories from southeastern North Carolina—especially the Lower Cape Fear. Our books introduce young readers to histories of resilience, culture, and community, with particular attention to the lived experiences and contributions of the Gullah Geechee and African Americans.
About the Founder
Ray Pelletier is the founder of Cape Fear Storyworks. He creates story-driven books that connect children to real places, real histories, and the people who shaped them—stories designed to be read aloud, discussed, and remembered.
The goal is simple: help young readers feel pride in place, curiosity about the past, and respect for the knowledge carried across generations.

Our work draws on historical research, local knowledge, and lived experience. We are especially interested in partnerships that help bring regional history to younger audiences through clear, engaging storytelling.
If you are interested in collaborating, contributing historical insight, or exploring educational or institutional uses of these books, we would be glad to hear from you.
